In a recent interview with KTLK's Chris Baker, El Tinklenberg talked about his plans to ease the concerns of those being hit hard by record-high gas prices:
Certainly we need to explore more domestically, but that’s not going to be the solution. We need to do a lot of things in terms of other energy resources, other alternatives, and conservation. We can do a lot to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by adding domestic supplies and reducing consumption and we can do that.
…If the domestic energy producers are getting massive tax breaks from the U.S. government and U.S. taxypayers to encourage domestic production, we should have some right to say that domestic production has to serve first the interests of the United States. Otherwise we should get rid of the subsidies.
When asked by Baker what drives his energy for the campaign, El had this to say:
I grew up in a small town. I was the first member of my family to go to college. I want to make sure that our kids and our grandkids have the kind of economic opportunities we had, and the kind of environment we had. We have a responsibility to that generation. And what we’re doing in terms of building up debt and consuming our infrastructure, we’ve got to reverse that. It’s really those grandkids who are driving me to do what I do. I think there’s an opportunity for a change in direction in this country that really serves their interests and their future.
